BAINBRIDGE – The second quarter was the difference in the Class C quarterfinals girls basketball game between No. 4 Bainbridge-Guilford and fifth-seed Newark Valley Friday night. The Lady Bobcats outscored the Cardinals in that stanza 14-3 behind Abi Selfridge’s free throw shooting. Selfridge’s first two trips to the line in the quarter gave B-G the lead that they clung to for the rest of the contest, winning 54-44.

Selfridge finished with 21 points to lead all scorers and just over half of her points came from the stripe as she went 11-for-15.

The Bobcats were behind 15-13 at the end of the first but their defense on their home floor took over, allowing the visiting team to just one made free throw and a bucket from Brianna Beebe.

Bainbridge-Guilford took the nine point lead into locker room at the break.

As the two teams matched point totals in the third quarter, each scoring 11, the Bobcats lead stayed at nine with just eight minutes left to play.

Needing to make stops defensively, Newark Valley held Selfridge to just four points in the fourth, but the balanced scoring from the rest of the B-G team in the quarter allowed the team to win by 10 points.
